Talihina Camp in March PDF Print E-mail

There is a camp being planned for Talihina beginning Monday, March 15 thru the weekend to March 20.  Weather, of course, is key. We've had a good wave season in Talihina and March is typically a windy month.  Details and level of interest is being polled informally, as we speak.  I am planning on going Monday thru Wed, then returning to Dallas.  Unless it has been previously reserved I plan to take the TSA Duo for those three days.Grant Cheadle has offered to help with the rental and tow expenses in exchange for air time.  If there are TSA pilots interested in sharing the Duo during that time, please  let me know so we can plan to accomodate everyone.  On good wave days you can launch at sunup and land at sunset; so there is plenty of time in the day to get several flights of several hours each.

Also, I am leaving Wed. night to come home.  If TSA pilots want to stay and keep the Duo in Talihina thru the weekend, just sign up to take it over from me when I leave.  Its a blast guys and a good way to get in some serious time and knock off winter rust and cabin fever.  If you are interested give me a heads up and which days which days you would like to attend and if you are bringing a glider.  It shouldn't be crowded thru the week, but if conditons are good for the weekend, it could get crowded.  We've handled 14 gliders on a weekend and was no problem; we just have to be in lockstep on staging and protocols  There will be a briefing each morning for familiarization with the area, the conditons expected and how to fly those conditons in the KIiamichi Valley.  Typically wve conditions are quite benign and an easy transition into wave flight for those who haven't experienced it before.  And it is elegant.  Also, the ridges are soarable in north and south winds.  Easy ridge ssoaring for beginners.   Legendary campfire dinners and comraderie under the stars.

Hope to see ya there,

Here is another video by Randy Teel of last Sunday's 14,000' wave flight.  This one runs from launch to over 14,000'.  At the top you can see the wave bar cloud and the foen gap out in front.  This conditon is always our guide to the wave and makes it easy to contact.  I now have 9 wave flights in Talihina.  We are getting really experienced with the Talihina wave and more new comers are joining us all the time.  I don't understand why more TSA pilots are not interested in near home wave fly9ing.

Remarkable footage has been captured of falling Alsomitra vine seeds, which use paper-thin wings to disperse like giant gliders.

The seeds, which are produced by a football-sized pod, can glide hundreds of metres across the forest.

That ensures that the seeds fall far from their parent, giving the next generation of vines a head start.
